CANDY HOUSE, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of the updated Sesame app for Android! We know it’s been a long time coming and we appreciate your patience. Our Android team has been working hard to address the most significant issues plaguing the beta version of the Sesame app, and we hope Sesame’s Android users will enjoy the improvements in the new app.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s changed in the new app:
Bluetooth Connectivity on Android is now closer to iOS
Our top priority for the new app was increased Bluetooth performance. We’ve heard feedback from Android users that their apps were not connecting to Sesame as quickly as on iOS, and we understand how frustrating it can be when you want to unlock the door but are stuck staring at your phone instead. We want the Sesame experience to be convenient and effortless, so we’ve put a lot of resources into optimizing both Bluetooth speed and reliability. Connecting to Sesame on your phone will be faster than ever - no more waiting ages for your phone to find Sesame so you can open the door! Now you’ll be able to access Sesame within seconds and truly enjoy your keyless life.
App Stability
Our developers have also worked to increase the stability of the app. The last thing we want is for the app to crash when you’re trying to unlock your door, and with the new app, many of the issues causing app crashes have been eliminated. Thanks to the redesigned software architecture, Sesame is now more robust and reliable, so you don’t need to worry about being inconvenienced by an untimely crash.
Manager Feature
The manager feature is now available on Android! Add a trusted friend or family member as a manager for your Sesame to grant him or her the ability to view manager and guest lists, add and remove guests, and view the history log in addition to locking and unlocking Sesame.
Invite Guests via Email
With the updated app, you no longer have to wait for your guests to create and verify an account with CANDY HOUSE before you can grant them access! Simply enter your guest’s email address and your guest will receive an email inviting them to download Sesame. Once they create and verify their account, they will automatically be granted access to your Sesame.

In addition to language support in English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese, we’ve also added localization in simplified Chinese. Perfect for Sesame users who prefer simplified Chinese as well as for AirBnB hosts with guests from Mainland China!
UI Improvements
CANDY HOUSE is all about the joyful yet minimal lifestyle, and we’ve refactored the UI to more closely reflect our aesthetics. We love simplicity and convenience, and we want our app to be both intuitive and handsome. Take a look at the sneak peeks below to see some of the changes we’ve made:
1. Status bar
Old: Ugly white bar at the top of the app
New: Floating status icons for a more minimalist look
2. Sesame list font sizes
Old: Longer names had smaller font sizes
New: More consistent font size for increased legibility
3. Swipe right for Sesame list
Old: Must swipe from edge of screen to see Sesame list
New: Swipe right from anywhere on the screen to access Sesame list
4. Manager feature
Old: Only guest list available
New: Manager list available in addition to guest list
5. Updated guest/manager detail page
Old: Guest details page only
New: New manager details page with updated font and button
6. Updated transitions
Old: “Uncover” animation for transitioning to new screen
New: “Slide” animation with old screen and new screen moving in tandem
We hope you’re as excited about the new Android app as we are, and we can’t wait to hear your feedback. We’ve done a lot of testing and QA on the app, but it may still have some unidentified bugs, so we’re posting the APK first before officially publishing the app on Google Play Store.
